Program Note
What Remains was composed for the inaugural 2026 Overtuned Fest: Rock Sinfonia.
Every day, countless things change at a rapid pace. Leaving home where I lived 18 years with my family to attend university, and later moving to the United States to live on my own, I found myself constantly adapting to new environments. While these changes were exciting, they were also accompanied by an underlying sense of fear and uncertainty. I often felt shaken, questioning whether the path I was taking was truly the right one.
As I focused only on moving forward, I eventually hit a wall — moments of exhaustion and resistance that prevented me from moving any further. It was then that I first realized the importance of protecting myself and remaining grounded by holding onto a steady inner core.
In What Remains, a wide range of colors, timbres, and sounds emerges throughout the piece. However, beneath this surface variety lies a small set of fundamental elements that persist from beginning to end. These elements are continuously transformed — distorted, recontextualized, diminished, and augmented — yet they always return in some form. Through this process, the piece reflects the idea that despite constant change, there remains something essential and enduring: the self.
